Day #1

1.  Consumption - What did you consume today?

Please make a list for your usage of the following substances

Water – Drank 7-8 glasses of water, 5-minute shower, brushed teeth, washed hands, flushed the toilet

Food – Frosted mini-wheats, scrambled eggs, milk, 2 cups of coffee, leftover pizza.

Electricity – No TV until patriot’s game (8:15pm), no computer until 6pm, no lights at home (because I was visiting my parents)

Gasoline – Drove 110 miles roundtrip to see my folks (31mpg = 3.55 gallons)

$$Money$$ - None spent on food. I went on a large grocery-shopping trip yesterday so all the food I ate I had previously purchased.  Already had gas in the car.  Bought a bunch of tools at Sears for $60.  Bought my wife cold medication for $17.  Pre-ordered a cake for Thanksgiving at my parents house for $33.

2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?

I took a short shower.  I usually buy starbucks everyday, but since I am trying to cut back I brewed my coffee at home.  Spent $110 today which is way more than a normal day.  I really made an effort to not use the computer other than for music or schoolwork.  I am not on any social networking sites (unless tumblr counts), so I couldn’t cut back.

3.  Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term?  Can you reduce your consumption permanently?  Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples.

I am changing how I drink coffee from now on.  I will have a reusable mug, and brew it at home to create less waste and spend less money.  I always try to limit my electricity usage at home, its always my wife that leaves the electricity on.  Heat is always set low @ 65.  No surfing the interweb today, but did use the computer for several hours for Pandora, this is something I would like to make a routine.
